The Art Association of Harrisburg opens a new exhibit - Dimensions: Photo-Realism to Abstraction
See the exhibit April 6 - May 10. Attend the opening reception on Friday, April 6, 5-8 PM with music by Tresa Paul
The history of art has long been cycling between representational realism, to distortion of forms and the human figure, to artwork in which concepts are not visually depicted through recognizable objects. Instead, ideas are emphasized through principles of design such as color, line, and mark making. This five-artist invitational welcomes viewers to experience the stylistic progression from photo-realism to non-representational abstraction, as displayed through the paintings of Harold Zabady, Jennifer Hartzler, Shane Patrick Gallup, Quay San and Maaike Heitkönig. Together, these five artists’ works present a smooth transition from one style to the next. However, separately, each artist grapples with individual ideas and meanings, giving this exhibition several dimensions of purpose.
